You find this interesting view while scanning a patient. Which view is this and why should you care about it?
Answer
This is the right ventricular inflow view
- RV inflow view obtained by obtaining a parasternal long-axis view and then tilting the tail of the transducer cephalad; eventually you'll see the heart as detailed below
- It's a great view for Doppler measurements through the tricuspid valve because the flow of blood is parallel to the ultrasound beam, useful when estimating things like the pulmonary artery systolic pressure
